upcoming elections, registering to vote in Iowa, and requesting an absentee ballot.

You can find your precinct and polling place on your voter registration card or by using this online form from the Auditor's website.


Register to Vote

To register to vote in Iowa, you must:
  •  Be a citizen of the United States.
  •  Be a resident of Iowa.
  •  Be at least 17 ½ years old (you must be 18 to vote).
  •  Not have been convicted of a felony (or you must have had your rights restored).
  •  Not currently be judged by a court to be "incompetent to vote.
  •  Give up your right to vote in any other place.

Deadlines for registering to vote are 10 days before a primary or general election and 11 days before any other election. 

You may register to vote in person at the Johnson County Auditor's Office, located at:

Request an Absentee Ballot

Early voting can occur in person or by mail.  In person early voting can be done at the Auditor's Office prior to each election.  It can also be done at one of several satellite voting stations set up by the Auditor's Office prior to each election.  Contact the Auditor's Office for details about in person early voting at (319) 356-6004.

Early voting can be done by mail with an absentee ballot.  To request a ballot, print and complete this absentee ballot request form and mail or hand deliver it to the Johnson County Auditor's Office:

You may also fax a request to (319) 356-6086. However, if you request an absentee ballot by fax, the original request document must be postmarked and received prior to the official canvass or received in the Auditor's Office by the day before Election Day.

Upon receiving your request, and when ballots are available, an absentee ballot and instructions will be mailed to you.

The ballot must be returned, either by mail or in person, whether it is voted or not. Ballots returned by mail must be postmarked by the day before Election Day and received prior to the official canvass in order to be counted. Ballots may also be returned in person to the Auditor's Office prior to the close of the polls on Election Day.
